Fodor's Review

Hosts Chris and Paul Hopkins custom-built their B&B and cottage to ensure the comfort and privacy of their guests. (Don't be worried, they are a sociable couple!) Three spacious suites adjoin the house, and each has a private entrance through the garden. The upstairs Beach Hut Suite has a private veranda overlooking the garden. Mussel Bed Cottage is a stand-alone, self-contained cottage with full kitchen and dining space that opens out to a private deck. Upstairs there's

a spacious lounge. Chris or Paul will deliver fresh breakfast provisions for your first day. In fact, the aroma of fresh baking often pervades throughout the property, and your hosts are happy to share. Mussel Bed is a convenient two-minute drive from Cooks Beach, or you could hop into a guest kayak and paddle the stream that passes the garden and meanders down to the beach. Complimentary bikes and tennis rackets for the local tennis courts are also available. The B&B is a 10-minute drive to Hahei beach, where Paul will offer guests a complimentary ride on his Water Taxi, to the stunning Cathedral Cove. A five-minute drive north brings you to Flaxmill Bay and the Whitianga ferry, where you can cross for lunch or dinner in a town restaurant.
