The Junction Hotel

The Junction Hotel Review

Named for its location between the old towns of Grahamstown and Shortland (they merged into Thames in 1872), this is one of the few hotels remaining from the gold rush days, when more than 100 bars lined the streets. The character of the gold rush days remains but the decor is considerably smartened. If you're in the mood for casual but classy pub grub in a convivial atmosphere with the locals, this is your place. The GBD is the main restaurant bar, serving everything from breakfast to lunch to bar snacks and tapas to evening mains (lamb shanks, risottos) to desserts. Weekends will get busy after dinner with music gigs, and comedy shows are a regular feature. Down the back is a more casual bar with pool tables; upstairs, some basic but clean budget and excellent value accommodation. Open daily 11am to 9pm, and weekends for breakfast from 8:30am.
