Anchor Lodge Review

Cozy, clean, with views from each of the units' grapevine-and-passion fruit-draped porches that encompass the Coromandel Harbour and a bank of native forest. There's a range of spa apartments, motel units, and backpacker accommodations. Prices are seasonal and can range from $28 (backpacker dorm) to $300 for the top self-contained apartment. The clean modern rooms are among the newest in Coromandel—tiled floors, blocky comfortable couches, and chrome-and-glass dining furniture. Outside there's a heated swimming pool and whirlpool, plus bikes available for local explorations. Extra perks include the 45-minute bushwalk to the harbor lookout next door to the property and the free loans of flashlights and gum boots to visit the nearby gold mine and glowworm cave.
