Brunton House Review

Built in the 1870s and later owned by three Thames mayors, this gorgeous two-story colonial villa was built entirely from kauri wood. It's backed by native forest and set beside the river on the edge of town. All bedrooms but one open out onto the upstairs wraparound veranda. There are only two bathrooms to share between four bedrooms, but the clawfoot bathtubs make up for it. Breakfast, which is included in the price, consists of pancakes and fruit, or you can opt for a true Kiwi fry-up of bacon, eggs, sausages, and hash browns; if you have other requirements, let your hosts know the night before.
