Matahui Lodge Review

This lodge on 6 acres of manicured gardens and vineyards is a prime example of the boutique hotels popping up in this region. There are two suites, the Merlot Room (private balcony, super-king bed, en suite with double shower) and the Cabernet Suite (large patio with hot tub, super-king bed, en suite with double shower). Both offer a complimentary minibar, and luxurious robes and towels. The harbor views may tempt you to stay on the patio all afternoon, even on cooler days when the outdoor stone fireplace is lit. The bedrooms are spacious and uncluttered, with simple wooden furniture, olive-and-taupe walls, and wide windows that look out onto the grounds and harbor. Consider staying for dinner (must be preordered)—they've stockpiled some excellent New Zealand vintages, including those from their own vineyard, and Kay knows her cooking!
