Fodor's Review

About 7½ km (4½ mi) from Coromandel, stop for a swim at Waiau Falls, a forest-fringed waterfall lagoon that's just a three minute walk down a few steps from the road. The track starts close to the Waiau Falls Scenic Reserve sign. Additional walking tracks lead farther into the woods. Less than 2 km (1 mi) east of Waiau Falls, a series of easy, clearly marked gravel paths and wooden walkways takes you through lush forest to a protected giant kauri grove. The full walk

takes about 15 minutes, but the trees are so majestic that you may want to allow a half hour to stroll through this ancient forest. Continuing along the 309, the road winds through more forest and farmland, past the 309 Manuka Honey Shop, and eventually comes out on State Highway 25, about 20 minutes south of Whitianga.
