Whakatane

For yet another chance to laze on the beach, Whakatane (fah-kah-tah-ne) is indisputably the North Island's sunniest town. The harbor here was a landfall site of Mataatua, one of the first migratory M?ori canoes, and the fertile hinterland was among the first areas of the country to be farmed.
