Te Ana - Ngai Tahu Rock Art Centre

Te Ana - Ngai Tahu Rock Art Centre Review

This interpretative walk-through experience explains the significant Maori limestone rock art found in the Timaru region. Over 80% of the country's rock art is found in this area, so it's your best chance to see it. The art iself is quite simple, but its story and cultural significance is very important. Much of it is fragile and in danger of being lost so it's preservation is vital. Receive a holographic karanga (a welcome song) from a beautiful old Maori woman as you enter, and follow the story through the Valley of the Moa and the Cave of the Taniwha. You can also book tours to some of the sites where you can see rock art in situ and hear its story from Ngai Tahu people.
