Less than 10 minutes' drive from Geraldine, Kavanagh House makes a good base from which to explore South Canterbury. It's a lovely old neo-Tudor brick-and-stucco mansion. One of the upstairs bedrooms has a bath in the middle of the polished floor of the bedroom, where you might expect an armchair. The creamy "New York" room is huge, with a four-poster bed at one end and a fireplace at the other. Enjoy lunch or afternoon tea out in the garden on a hot summer's day or in front of a real fire in winter. A glass of bubbly and a fruit platter await you upon arrival.
