The hosts of this not-particularly-Swiss-looking chalet are mountaineers and outdoor enthusiasts, and generous with friendly advice about enjoying the area. The house is an old wooden villa from the early 1900s. A log fire in the huge kitchen helps keep the place warm; the bedrooms are centrally heated. At the end of the day, relax in the hot tub or simply sit in the sun (even in winter it can be intense) to bask and read. The Alpenhorn's particularly popular with skiers, fishers, and "flashpackers" (a term used to describe well-off travelers who choose backpacker hostels, saving their money for other experiences rather than lodging).
