$$$, Contemporary, Lyttelton
Fodor's Review:
The Lyttelton volcano is long since extinct, but this bright-yellow restaurant and its bright-blue neighbor, the Lava Bar, are very much alive. Toys, rainbow-color lamp shades, Frida Kahlo posters, and Kiwi paintings decorate the former grocery store. Nab one of the 1960s Formica tables and order a great big steak, fresh fish, spicy enchiladas, nachos, or a curry. A good range of wines and beers is available, as well as margaritas by the pitcher.
