Distinctive blue-and-yellow art deco-era facades line the pedestrian zone of New Regent Street between Gloucester and Armagh streets. The buildings are now filled with cafés, restaurants, and boutiques, and New Regent buzzes constantly with window-shoppers and strollers. Some of the best stops are Tolaga Bay for cashmere, Boxes for jewelry and floaty scarves, and Cubana for Cuban cigars and coffee. Look up to the upper stories for more: Shoezies, for instance, stocks embroidered boots, and Canterbury Fare bursts with wines and cheeses. Pause for a smoothie at the Daily Grind or some ice cream at Six Chairs Missing. Do watch out for traffic, though -- the tram runs right through the sidewalk cafés on its way to the city's newest shopping center, Cathedral Junction. This colorful street merits a photo op even if your plastic has no credit left.
