10–12 Glenmark Dr., Waipara, Canterbury, 7483, New Zealand
Wake up to fresh-baked bread and newly laid eggs every morning at this basic-but-rather-quirky backpackers lodge housed in old railway carriages and huts. It's first-come, first-served for breakfast in the station waiting room (now a basic, communal kitchen). Some of the carriages retain old leather seating and travel posters. There are also powered campervan sites and a number of tent sites, and they are close to the Weka Pass vintage Railway.
- very rustic and rural
- complete with all the sounds and smells of the country
- a good stop for anyone cycle-touring
- some of the accommodations and services are quite basic (where else in NZ advertises color TV!) but so is the price
Rate Includes: No meals
