Hotels Overview

No matter where you stay in Christchurch, you're sure to find some of the best lodging in New Zealand, from luxury hotels and lodges to very fine B&Bs to well-maintained inexpensive hostels. The two main motel strips are along Papanui Road (the end nearest town) and Riccarton Road, both outside the city center. Most accommodations do not include breakfast in their room rates. Reservations are most necessary in summer (December through March), on public holidays, and during rugby game finals.

Outside Christchurch, it can be hard to find a place to stay in summer, especially over the holidays (late December and January). If you're planning on going to Akaroa, Hanmer Springs, or Waipara during this peak season, be sure to reserve well in advance.
