Taxis can be hailed in the street but are more readily available from taxi stands throughout the city. Placards with Taxi Sign in red letters mark the stands. Auckland taxi rates vary with the company. Most are around $2 per 1/2 mile, but some charge as much as $4. Flag-fall, when the meters start, is usually $2. The rates are listed on the driver's door. Most taxis will accept major credit cards.
