C.A.C. is housed in a historic 1920s bluestone building that once housed the Colonial Ammunition Company and has become a firm fixture in Auckland's dining scene in an understated way. There is an extensive wine and beer list and they now carry the acclaimed Greystone wines from Waipara in the South Island. But people go for the food, which is based around sharing lots of small plates. It's popular with people who are after flavorsome food but don't want to be restricted to a main-size meal. Try the pork and veal meatballs, the duck sausage, or the chicken salad with currants, parsley, and orange. There is also live music on Tuesday and Thursday, and if the crowd is right there can be quite a fun vibe—without visitors feeling like they need to be hyper-trendy to fit in.
