Fodor's Review:
Simon Gault, a chef of formidable experience and reputation, helmed several top restaurants in Auckland but dropped off the public radar for two years when America's Cup competitor Larry Ellison hired him as his personal chef. Now Gault is back and delivering subtle, exquisite Italian cuisine to the rest of us. This two-story brick restaurant has a lively bar downstairs and a smattering of tables, but the serious business of food takes place upstairs. And Gault takes his food seriously enough to import from Italy what he can't get at home, so the insalata caprese has the creamiest buffalo mozzarella. He gives a contemporary spin to traditional dishes, so the veal on polenta with onions, mushroom truffle mascarpone, and Marsala sauce is like a new classic.
