$$-$$$, Italian, Ponsonby
Fodor's Review:
It's no mean feat being the longest-running restaurant in Ponsonby, a trendy area whose inhabitants count eating out among the necessities of life. The comprehensive Italian menu includes wood-fired pizzas and pasta prepared just as it should be, but many can't go past the fish of the day, usually panfried and served over a risotto with a delicate sauce or zesty salsa. You may strain to hear your companions over the din, unless you sit in the courtyard shaded by the robinia tree. Prego is always full, but the expert staff will usher you to the bar and secure a table within about 20 minutes.
