Numerous additions to what started as a California-style bungalow have created a delightfully rambling lodge, set in the bush at the foot of the Waitakere Ranges. The rooms all have private decks with views of the bush, and some have views of the city and Waitemata Harbour. The clawfoot baths stand on art deco chrome feet in keeping with the 1930s-ish Pacific theme of tapa cloths and local art, mixed with antiques. A large indoor pool overlooks the Manukau Harbour to the south. You can see both harbors from the huge lounge, brimming with vigorous indoor plants and artfully arranged flowers, where drinks are served in the evening.
