Fodor's Expert Review Teahupoo
Tahiti Iti
Beach
Pronounced Cho-Poo, this is the big draw of the region, though people aren't coming for just the beach. Teahupoo is home to the huge left-hander wave that surfers the world over come to master. The waves are called Kumbaia tubes and they break out in Hava'e Pass, a gap in the reef. Waves average heights between 6 and 8 feet, though they can get higher. Due to the danger of the reef, it's only recommended for expert surfers.
