Fodor's Review

Traditional tattoo artist James Samuela, who has been practicing for more than 10 years, is one of only seven artists in French Polynesia who still practices the ancient techniques first used by the warriors of the Marquesas Islands. The ban on traditional tattooing (using sterilized wooden and bone implements) was lifted in 2001.

Tattoo fading after one month

I got a traditional tattoo from James in Dec 2015. It was a very painful 3+ hours, and less than one month later the tattoo is fading in many spots. I wish I could upload a photo for you to see here. It looks terrible, and now I will either have to pay to have it fixed or have tattoo removal. I would not recommend him.
