Vatulele Island Resort. Purchased by Six Senses Hideaways in mid-2007, this exclusive yet informal boutique resort popular with Americans has been made over with upgrades including plunge pools in all bures and a full-service Six Senses Spa. Foliage separates the bures, which are also set a good distance apart. Deluxe Bures open up almost completely with 12 doors onto a terrace overlooking the sand. Each is split-level with a king-size bed, plunge pool, and outdoor shower.
Both Premium Bures have personal butlers and air-conditioning: the Grand Honeymoon Bure has two indoor showers, a dining area, and an entertainment system, and is the most remote; the two-story Point has two plunge pools. Diving is excellent, with two resident instructors and 22 sites within 15 minutes of the resort. The cuisine, prepared by a former Sydney chef, includes weekly curry and BBQ on the Beach nights and, on Tuesday, a six-course degustation menu with wine-pairing.
