Viti Levu Hotels

Namatakula Village Homestay

Updated 06/22/2011

Fodor's Review

You probably won't find more rustic digs in Fiji, but you certainly won't find any that bring you closer to local life. Guests buy kava and present it to the chief at the community center on the first night, after which they are ceremonially accepted into the village. They can then mingle with locals as much as they please. Rosa Batibasaga prepares three meals a day incorporating native fruits and vegetables from the home's own garden, chicken, and fish speared by her husband. A lovo feast is prepared for guests who stay three nights. It's a two-minute walk to the pretty but tidal beach and snorkeling equipment is available. The basic accommodations include rooms sleeping three to four in combinations of double and single beds with shared bathrooms.
