The Gold Country Places
Ballarat
Getting Here and Around
It's an easy 80-minute drive to Ballarat along the Western Highway (M8) from Melbourne. The road, however, is the main artery between Melbourne and Adelaide, and many huge trucks also use the road. Take care and drive within the speed limit. From Ballarat you can easily drive north to the spa-country towns of Daylesford-Hepburn Springs and Bendigo on the Midland Highway. The city itself is well signposted. The city center is built around a well-planned grid and has ample parking. Lock bus services run from Sturt Street, the main thoroughfare, to most of Ballarat's attractions.
V/Line operates trains to Ballarat and Bendigo from Melbourne.
