Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit. This racing circuit continues the island's long involvement with motor sports, dating back to 1928 when the Australian Grand Prix was run on local unpaved roads. The circuit was completely redeveloped in the 1980s, and in 1989 hosted the first Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix. The circuit holds regular races as well as big-ticket events, such as the MotoGP in October and Superbike World Championships in February. Speed freaks can buckle-up for hot laps in a racing car (from A$330 for 30 minutes) driven by a professional driver year round (dates and times vary, see website, or drive a go-kart (A$30 for 10 minutes) around a scale replica of the actual track.
