Book NowMiami Hotel Melbourne Review
Like a Motel 6, only fancier, Miami Hotel is an excellent value option for the budget- and style-conscious. Located on the city fringe and an 8-minute ride away on the No. 8 tram, the accommodations range from budget rooms with shared bathrooms to motel-style rooms; all have TVs (with cable) and WiFi (fee). It's suitable for doubles, triples, and families. There are also three TV lounges with cable movies, and a guest kitchen; breakfast can be provided on request (A$9 Continental and A$18 full). This efficiently run hotel and its friendly staff have picked up top accolades.

Lyrael, from Originally San Antonio, TX - live in NYC now
Fodor's 2009 guide to Australia was my bible for the two weeks my fiance and I spent touring Sydney, Melbourne, and Hobart and around. We used the guide book to choose our room in Sydney (The Blacket), the Blue Mountains (Carrington), and... unfortunately, Melbourne (Miami Hotel). After having good luck with the first two places, staying at a fancy motel with award nominations, a friendly staff, and a good style that would be easy on the budget seemed like a no-brainer. The reality of the place could be further from the truth, but it would be tough. The hotel is absolutely disgusting and rundown. Our room looked like a prison with grimy walls, gum rubbed into the carpet, and scratchy, mismatched bedding. We pre-booked our first two nights in Melbourne at this hotel and regretted it immediately. It was hands down the worse place we stayed (and the least comfortable). The staff wasn't terribly friendly, aside from one man whom I think was the owner or maybe just a manager. Our conversation was pleasant enough, but turned icy as soon as I told him we were checking out because we wanted to stay in the heart of the city. We moved to Hotel Mercure for 3 more nights and it was fantastic.
