12 Apostles Helicopter rides are an exciting way to appreciate the awesome force of the Southern Ocean and this amazing natural sculpture park. Ten-minute flights take in the Twelve Apostles and Loch Ard Gorge; longer flights travel farther up the coast to the west and inland. Prices start at A$95 per person.

AAT Kings has a six-day tour from Melbourne to Adelaide that travels the length of the Great Ocean Road and also includes visits to Mount Gambier and Kangaroo Island. The tour is A$2,285.

Absolute Outdoors is a one-stop shop for kayak, bike, abseiling, and surfing tours around southwest Victoria; there's also a surf school. All equipment is provided.

Adventure Tours Australia has two three-day tours that include both the Great Ocean Road and the Grampians National Park. Young backpackers are their target market, however anyone can join the tours, and a choice between dorm accommodation and singles or doubles is available. You can choose a round-trip tour from Melbourne or one that continues on to Adelaide. Both tours spend one night in Princetown (just east of the Twelve Apostles) and another night in Halls Gap. It's A$395 for dorm accommodation and A$485 for a double or twin room, with two dinners and two breakfasts.

Great Ocean Road Adventure Tours or GORATS as it's called, runs mountain-bike tours across the region. Many tours run to the town of Forrest, considered a mountain-bike mecca, with 15 trails showcasing the natural beauty of the Otway Ranges. GORATS specializes in school groups but can tailor-make trips for a minimum of two people. Prices start from $85 per person for a two-hour trip, including bike, helmet, map, transport, and guide; pickups from local accommodation can be arranged. They also operate flatwater canoe tours on the Barwon, Anglesea. and Aire rivers.

Lighthouse Tours explore the majestic, and still operational, Split Point Lighthouse at Aireys Inlet, also known as the White Queen. You can see her for miles as you approach this section of the Great Ocean Road west of Anglesea—just look for the huge white tower with the red cap—and the views from the top are amazing. The 45-minute tours operate year-round, but bookings are required on weekdays. Tour cost is $A12. Melbourne's Best Day Tours has a 4WD tour of the Great Ocean Road from Melbourne. Starting at 7:30 am, it includes breakfast and lunch, a lighthouse tour, rain-forest walks, the Otway Fly treetop walk, and sightseeing in Port Campbell National Park. The 12-hour tour takes a maximum of six people and costs $A364.

Mulloka Cruises give half-hour cruises around the Port Fairy Bay—a quick way to set your sea legs and see Port Fairy from a different angle. Boat owner Jane Grimshaw dispenses interesting information about the area. Cruises cost from A$10.

Port Campbell Boat Charters operates diving tours to the famous wreck sites as well as scenic cruises and fishing trips.

Southern Exposure Adventure Sports runs mountain-bike tours along the coast and in the nearby Great Otway National Park, kayaking tours, and surfing lessons. Surfing lessons are A$65 for two hours, and combined bike and kayaking tours can be arranged. Bookings are essential.

Spring Creek Horse Rides take you through the beautiful Otway National Park. It's a leisurely way to spend an hour or two. Located at Bellbrae, just a few miles inland from Torquay, rides are A$40 for one hour and A$60 for two.
