Car and Bus Travel

Driving around the Northern Territory is relatively easy, with mostly good paved roads and light traffic outside Darwin. But distances can be daunting. For example, Adelaide to Alice Springs via the Stuart Highway is 1,000 miles, and can take 24 hours. From Darwin to Broome is 1,152 miles, a tiring two-day drive. Greyhound Australia operates an extensive network of long-distance coaches. Although major highways remain open, many regional roads are closed during the wet season due to flooding.
