Car and Bus Travel

Driving around Western Australia and the Northern Territory is relatively easy, with mostly good paved roads and light traffic outside Perth and Darwin. But distances can be daunting. For example, Adelaide to Alice Springs via the Stuart Highway is 1,000 mi, and can take 24 hours. From Darwin to Broome is 1,152 mi, a tiring two-day drive. On the other hand, Perth to Margaret River in the South West is less than four hours along good roads. Greyhound Australia operates an extensive network of long-distance coaches. From Perth to Broome takes two days, with another day on to Darwin. From Perth to Adelaide, expect to be on the road for 36 hours.
