Busselton Jetty and Underwater Observatory. At almost 2-km (1¼-miles) long, the 146-year-old Busselton Jetty is the longest timber jetty in the southern hemisphere. You can visit the Interpretive Center and Heritage Museum at the start of the jetty, then either catch the miniature train (45-minute ride) or walk to the fascinating Underwater Observatory—one of only seven in the world—where you'll spy all manner of soft, colorful coral as you descend the cylindrical, windowed observatory. Tours for up to 40 people run every hour, taking you 8 meters (26 feet) below the water. The warm Leeuwin Current and the sheltering effect of the jetty above have created a unique microclimate rich with colorful tropical and subtropical corals, sponges, fish, and invertebrates—there are 300 marine species in all.
