Fodor's Expert Review Outback Pioneer Hotel and Lodge

Yulara Dr., Yulara, Northern Territory, 0872, Australia

The theme at this affordable and popular hotel is the 1860s Outback, complete with corrugated iron, timber beams, and camel saddles. But you won't necessarily be roughing it here. You'll stay in no-frills rooms, but there are several on-site restaurant options, ranging from DIY–BBQ and fast-food takeaway to an outdoor bar with live music and the grand buffet at Bough House Restaurant, plus a nice swimming pool and game room for kids of all ages. Guests at the adjoining dorm-style budget accommodation option with a communal kitchen share the hotel's facilities, so it does have a slight backpacker feel in the public areas.

PROS

  • lodge rooms are cheapest in the resort
  • free shuttle bus
  • tennis courts

CONS

  • some budget-style rooms have communal bathrooms
  • hotel rooms are basic for the price
  • rooms closer to Pioneer BBQ will hear music until about 11 pm
