King's Park

King's Park Review

Once a gathering place for Aboriginal people, and established as a public space in 1890, this 1,000-acre park overlooking downtown Perth is one of the city's most-visited attractions. Both tourists and locals enjoy picnics, parties, and weddings in the gardens, as well as regular musical and theater presentations and the summer Moonlight Cinema. In spring the gardens blaze with orchids, kangaroo paw, banksias, and other wildflowers, making it ideal for a walk in the bushland. The steel-and-timber Lotterywest Federation Walkway takes you into the treetops and the 17-acre botanic garden of Australian flora. The Synergy Parkland details Western Australia's fossil and energy history. The Lotterywest Family Area has a playground for youngsters. Free walking tours take place daily at 10 am and 2 pm, and details on seasonal and themed tours are available from the information kiosk near Fraser's Restaurant.
