Fodor's Expert Review Jackson's Restaurant

A long list of awards over the past two decades has established Jackson's Restaurant as one of Perth's top dining establishments, but trends have led it to move away from its degustation menu to more casual, yet equally refined eats at fantastic prices. Chef Neal Jackson has launched a new lounge section, serving truffle popcorn; crab and mayo brioche buttie; and drunken chicken, tea egg and wolfberries—all dishes range from A$7 to A$10. The maestro began his career in London before establishing Jackson's in Perth, where since 1998 he continues to impress by creating innovative and intensely flavored foods. Pricier à la carte choices include roasted quail, foie gras, woodear mushroom and truffle ponzu or dry aged sirloin steak, potato crisps and Roquefort sauce. There are limited but excellent vegetarian choices as well, such as risotto of celery, apple, grapes, walnuts, and goats curd.
