Diamond Island Resort Review

Direct access to a deserted beach, island walks and penguin viewing platforms are among the draws of this peaceful hideaway 1½ km (1 mile) north of Bicheno and overlooking the Tasman Sea. Twelve two-bedroom duplexes are nestled within 7 acres of landscaped gardens; there are also 14 smaller one-bedroom units. Included in the rate is a group tour to see fairy penguins, who come ashore each night after a day of fishing. The resort's restaurant, Facets ($$$), serves delicious modern Australian fare, and a full slate of massages and body treatments are available in the day spa.
