Balmain Market, in a leafy churchyard less than 5 km (3 mi) from the city, has a rustic quality that makes it a refreshing change from city-center shopping. Crafts, handmade furniture, plants, bread, toys, tarot readings, and massages are among the offerings at the 140-odd stalls. Inside the church hall you can buy international snacks, from Indian samosas to Indonesian satays to Australian meat pies. The market runs 8:30 to 4 on Saturday.
