For charm, character, and central location, it's hard to beat this ornate Victorian hotel. No two rooms are the same, but all have fresh flowers, down pillows, and Gilchrist & Soames toiletries. The spacious double rooms at the front have views of Circular Quay. There are also somewhat quieter standard-size double rooms overlooking Nurses Walk or opening onto an inner courtyard. Ceiling fans and windows allow for a breeze in all rooms, and the rooftop garden is a delight, especially in the evening. This historic building has four floors but no elevator; winding corridors and the steep, narrow staircase to the reception desk can be challenging for those with impaired mobility.
