This is one of the most popular surfing beaches on the island's south coast; the 5-km (3-mile) white-sand beach is also one of the most pristine to swim. Safe swimming areas can be found near the jetty and boat ramp, or the sandy-bottomed Harriet River entering the bay. On the other side of the river, Point Ellen provides photographers with spectacular views of the Southern Ocean. Vivonne Bay is billed as the only safe harbor on the south coast of Kangaroo Island and is the base for crayfishing boats from November to May. You'll also find barbecue and picnic areas, toilets, and a camping area. The beach can be reached by taking the road just past the Vivonne Bay store. Amenities: parking, toilets, food and drink. Best for: swimming, surfing, solitude, walking.
