Getting Here and Around

Driving yourself is an option but may not be the best idea if you plan to skip the spit bucket on your tasting stops. However, for the self-guiders out there, the Granite Belt and Scenic Rim tourism boards provide downloadable maps. Find Granite Belt winery and walking trails at www.granitebeltwinecountry.com.au, and Scenic Rim winery and trail maps at www.ipswichtourism.com.au.

Arguably, the safest way to sample the offerings of the region's wineries is via guided tour. More than half a dozen companies run tours of wineries in the Scenic Rim and Mount Tamborine areas, but most require groups of at least six people. Family-run Cork 'n Fork Winery Tours is an exception, running daily and overnight viticultural tours for couples and small groups to Mount Tamborine and the Scenic Rim. Their popular full-day tour (A$140 per person) includes hotel pickups from the Gold Coast or Brisbane, lunch, and five winery visits with guided tastings.

Local operators Granite Highlands Maxi Tours runs half-day, full-day, weekend, and customized tours of Granite Belt wineries.
