Lady Musgrave Island sits at the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, about 40 km (25 nautical mi) north of Lady Elliot Island and 96 km (53 nautical mi) north east of Bundaberg. The cay has a 2,945-acre surrounding reef, about one-third of which is a massive yet calm lagoon, a true coral cay of 39.5 acres. Here day-trippers, yachties, divers, and campers converge, and the island has some of the best diving and snorkeling in Queensland. Campers have a chance to view the myriad sea life surrounding this tiny speck of land in the Pacific.

From October through April the island is a bird and turtle rookery, with black noddies, wedge-tailed shearwaters, bridled terns, more timid black-naped and roseate terns, and green and loggerhead turtles. There's also an abundance of flora, including casuarina and pisonia trees.
