Getting Here and Around

Cruise Whitsundays runs several daily services between Daydream Island and Great Barrier Reef (Hamilton Island) Airport Jetty (A$60), as well as from Whitsunday Coast (Proserpine) Airport and Proserpine Rail Station (A$50); and between the island and Abel Point Marina and (less frequently) Shute Harbour (A$30 each way). Transfers from Abel Point Marina to Hamilton Island Airport Jetty cost A$60 each way. Cruise Whitsunday Resort Connections offers direct island transfers from Hamilton Island Airport on modern, air-conditioned catamaran cruisers. Cruise Whitsundays also runs Island Escape Day Cruises, half- and full-day cruises to nearby islands and beaches: Single Island Escape tours take you to Daydream, Hook, or Long Island for the day (A$59—A$89, including lunch and use of the island resort's facilities); the Twin Island Escape (A$105) calls in at two of these three islands; and the Island Wanderer (A$55) is a relaxed scenic cruise around several of the Whitsunday islands; and the Island Hopper (A$79) allows you to visit various Whitsunday resort islands at your leisure.

Although most people arrive by boat from Great Barrier Reef (Hamilton Island) Airport, an alternative is to fly to Whitsunday Coast (Proserpine) Airport on the mainland, catch a bus to Shute Harbour, then take a boat to the island. Several major airlines operate flights between Hamilton Island and Proserpine airports and capital cities around Australia, and between the Whitsundays, Townsville, and Cairns. Check with each carrier for weight restrictions.
