Fodor's Review

This elegant beachfront property, formerly a Peppers-brand luxury resort, has been reopened for self-catering travelers at alluringly reasonable rates. Stay in stylishly furnished cabins, bures (tropical-style bungalows), or A-frame bungalows with balconies and daybeds strung along a palm-fringed, white-sand shore. While there, you'll have free rein of the resort, including its kitchen, dining room, and saltwater pool. There are no resort staff, but the welcoming

on-site caretakers are there to lend a hand when you need them. If you want to book a water-sports session or reef tour, or crave a restaurant meal, BreakFree Long Island Resort is a short walk away. Otherwise, BYO supplies to cook on the barbecue or order food and drink from the mainland and have it ferried over. With few tourists and no TVs, piped music, or organized activities, the ambience here is peaceful. Wallabies, goannas, brush turkeys, and big-eyed curlews wander freely about the grounds, and kookaburras cackle from the trees.
