Peppers Palm Bay Review

This elegant property woos well-heeled travelers with a gorgeous setting, discreet service, and gourmet food ($$$). Just 21 simply but stylishly furnished cabins, bures (tropical-style bungalows), and A-frame bungalows are strung along a palm-fringed, white-sand shore, their balconies invitingly slung with hammocks. Wallabies, goannas, brush turkeys, and big-eyed curlews wander freely about the grounds; kookaburras cackle from the trees. Spotlessly clean cabins, Palm Bay's equivalent of "standard" rooms, have dark-wood furnishings and sleek tribal decor; bures also have lounges; and each bungalow has a daybed in a separate lounge area. Three elevated suites with expansive decks, outdoor dining areas, and whitewashed interiors occupy the hillside behind: each has a chic lounge area with a plasma TV and DVD/CD player. Palm Bay's streamlined tour desk arranges various daytime activities: fly over, snorkel, and dive the reef, go sailing, game fishing, or golfing, cruise to Whitehaven Beach, enjoy a private picnic on a deserted isle, hike or paddle-ski around the island. Or just relax in the large saltwater pool, heated Jacuzzi, library, or endota spa. After-dark entertainment is low-key: sunset cocktails, fine dining, and conversation, a hit of tennis on the floodlit courts, or a film at the resort's mini-cinema. Book just a room, or choose a package that includes meals.
