Long Island Resort Review

A short walk over the hill from Palm Bay, this family-focused resort might as well be on a different island. This is not the place to commune quietly with nature: the resort is big on outdoor activities, particularly water sports, and group-oriented fun. The free kids' club is adjourned in periods of low demand (especially in low season), which means there can be lots of little ones running around. Nighttime entertainment may include karaoke, live music, beach parties, trivia and casino nights, and energetic games. Guests in air-conditioned beachfront and garden-view rooms have private balconies and extra conveniences—TV, phone, fridge, Internet access—and can buy packages that include breakfast or three daily buffet-style meals (plus a la carte options at dinner). Guests in fan-cooled budget lodges fend for themselves in the communal kitchen. Book a spa treatment or order a picnic hamper from the licensed café and escape the crowd. The island and resort are easily accessed via ferry or launch, making it a good base for island-hopping.
