Daintree Eco Lodge & Spa Review
Dozens of stars have taken time out at this 30-acre boutique eco-resort in the ancient Daintree rain forest; elevated boardwalks protect the fragile environs, linking the spa, heated pool, restaurant-bar-lounge-deck and 15 freestanding tree houses. Each tree house is equipped with ceiling fans, a king-size canopy bed, handcrafted wood furnishings, Aboriginal artworks, and satellite TV with free in-house movies. Some have balcony hot tubs. Julaymba Restaurant's tropical Australian menu (mains around A$30) incorporates local "bush tucker" ingredients. The Malone family and Aboriginal staff run a terrific activities program that includes bush-tucker walks, rain-forest safaris, indigenous art workshops, and cultural shows.

Macaw, from Winters, CA
I LOVED this place; its very unique. What you get for your money is: a room with a big balcony suspended in the rainforest, a terrific restaurant looking over a black pond (you can feed the 2 beautiful eels) and wonderful, relaxed, helpful staff. If you want to stay in a marble hall (and I like that too sometimes!), you can probably do that closer to home. This is a great way to live and sleep in the rainforest without roughing it at all. The rooms open to the air and to the really bizarre sounds of the birds (day and night but the dawn chorus is amazing), while the insects are microscreened out and the Spa is fantastic.

nanabee, from San Diego, California
We were expecting a lavish, over the top in comfort resort for $440 + (double occupancy) per night. We couldn't believe what awaited us. Our cabin was one of 15 that ringed the restaurant. A small non discript outdoor pool with 2 lounge beds that were apparently the "spa." The "compound" was about 300 yards off the main road. We heard the driving of cars early in the morning, and at night we heard the restaurant chairs and silverware clanking and diners laughing loudly into the night. It was hardly restful. We had to close all our windows and doors to keep the noise down. The room was nice if it was in the actual price range (which would be about half the rate) for such a place.
Again for $440 + per night you expect more than average supermkt towels and sheets (you know the cheap ones you have in your own home!).
Fodors promised "In-room: ...hot tubs..."
In reality only some of the rooms have hot tubs and then the room rate inflates to over $500./night double occupancy.
In speaking with locals in Mossman, several mentioned what a rip off the supposed eco lodge really is in their opinion.
We felt we got snorkered.
