Getting Here and Around in Hinchinbrook Island
Getting Here and Around
Hinchinbrook is a 50-minute boat ride from Port Hinchinbrook, near Cardwell, 190 km (118 miles) south of Cairns and 161 km (100 miles) north of Townsville. Since the resort closed, scheduled ferries no longer run from Port Hinchinbrook to the island; however, various operators are accredited by Queensland Parks & Wildlife Service (QPWS) to take guided tours to the national park: for a list of these, go to www.nprsr.qld.gov.au/parks/hinchinbrook/touroperators. Those wishing to trek the island’s renowned Thorsborne Trail, a multiday wilderness hike, can take a ferry from Lucinda, farther south.
