Boat and Ferry Travel

Numerous vehicular ferries service Fraser Island from Rainbow Beach and Hervey Bay. The Rainbow Venture and Fraser Explorer ferries run continuously 6 am-5:30 pm between Inskip Point, near Rainbow Beach, and Hook Point at the island's southern end.

The Fraser Venture barge makes the half-hour trip between River Heads, 20 minutes' drive south of Hervey Bay, and Wanggoolba Creek, opposite Eurong Bay Resort on the island's west coast, three times a day. The Fraser Dawn ferry departs from Urangan Boat Harbour for the 55-minute journey to Fraser Island's Moon Point twice a day. The thrice-daily Kingfisher vehicle barge connects River Heads with Kingfisher Bay Resort in 45 minutes. Fares for these services are interchangeable; tickets must be prebooked.

Kingfisher Bay also runs passenger catamarans from Urangan marina to Kingfisher Bay Resort on Fraser Island four times daily. The trip takes 45 minutes.

Manta Ray's two barges go between Inskip Point and Hook Point, making up to 40 round-trips daily, on demand, from 6:30 am to 5:30 pm. It's a short trip, so if you miss one barge the next will be along soon. Buy tickets online (recommended) or as you board.
