Summit Restaurant

Fodor's Review:

Perched beside the lookout on the slope of Mt. Coot-tha, this restaurant affords unbeatable views of the city, especially at night. Since the view is a bigger attraction than the food, diners tend to be from out of town. The original building dates from 1925 and has been patronized by such lights and dignitaries as Katharine Hepburn and Britain's Princess Alexandra. From a diverse menu that features contemporary cuisine with Asian influences, treat yourself to the Summit's signature crisp Atlantic salmon on potato mash and wilted English spinach with tomato and chili jam, or choose something healthy from the vegetarian or gluten-free menus. For dessert, there's strawberry Vacherin: a meringue nest filled with fresh cream and sweet berries and drizzled in chocolate sauce. Taxi fare to the Summit from the city center, 10 minutes' drive away, is about A$20.
