Great Green Way

Fodor's Review:

A beautiful drive is along what locals call the Great Green Way, the main road connecting Townsville to Cairns. The road travels through sugarcane, papaya, and banana plantations, passing dense rain forest, white beaches, and bright blue water dotted with tropical islands. The 345-km (215-mi) drive along the Bruce Highway takes around four hours—longer if you get caught behind a tractor or if the sugarcane rail is running—plus stops to explore towns, parks, waterfalls, and rain-forest tracts along the way.
