Flinders Street

Fodor's Review:

A stroll along Flinders Street will show you some of Townsville's turn-of-the-20th-century colonial architecture. Magnetic House and other buildings have been beautifully restored. The old Queens Hotel is built in Classical Revival style, as is the 1885 Perc Tucker Regional Gallery, originally a bank. The former post office, now the Brewery, had an impressive masonry clock tower (Flinders and Denham Sts.) when it was erected in 1889. The tower was dismantled in 1942 so it wouldn't be a target during World War II air raids, but was put up again in 1964. The Exchange, Townsville's oldest pub, was built in 1869, burnt down in 1881, and rebuilt the following year.
