In the early 1900s this two-story Queenslander was the home of the mayor of Cairns, as well as the homestead of North Queensland's first tropical-fruit plantation. A wooden veranda surrounds the entire building, and each pristine, high-ceilinged room has a private balcony area and en suite bathroom. There's also a guest kitchen and a lounge with books and TV. The saltwater pool, surrounded by a brick patio and lush trees, is particularly pleasant on hot afternoons. Hosts Pat and Mike Woolford are happy to book tours, and to share their extensive local knowledge, and the affections of their pet poodles and galah. They also do a great cooked breakfast, with local specialties such as kangaroo sausage.

We found the large town of Cairns to be bustling with tourists and shoppers with traffic and tons of shops hawking goods.
Lilybank B&B is a little jewel about 5 or 10 minutes out of town in a quiet area. The home is lovely, surrounded by a lush, green garden with trees and flowers. You feel like you are in a quite little rain foresty environment. The home is lovely and the owners are thoughtful, providing personal care. They have many years experience helping tourists out with the local activities.
We also stayed in a $440/night lodge later on and found the Libybank for a fraction of the cost a much better getaway retreat!

Staying at Lilybank is like staying with family ... only better. The food at breakfast is excellent, and the owners are great at giving you ideas about the best things to do in the area. They REALLY care about you, and making your stay as pleasant as possible. Excellent restaurants are just a short walk down the road, and all the tours pick you up right at the front gate.
